Corporate Safety Services is a shared service between the County of Newell and the City of Brooks and it has been a part of the organizational structure for each of these municipalities since 2007. The County of Newell is fully committed to safety for all employees and their families as outlined in Council’s Statement of Commitment. The department holds the same responsibilities within both organizations, that being – to oversee and help manage the municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
Corporate Safety personnel work with staff at all levels – directors, managers, supervisors, and workers – to ensure that their safety programs and safe work behaviors meet the organization’s expectations and comply with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety legislative requirements. Through this cooperative effort, the organization promotes a strong workplace safety culture that focuses on the proactive identification of hazards, the timely implementation of control measures, effective training initiatives, and the promotion of healthy living. Details regarding health and safety for the County of Newell are outlined in the Health and Safety Policy.
The County has used the Alberta Government’s Partnerships Program as its guide to build an effective and viable health and safety management system. The system has been measured against the provincially recognized standard and as a result of successfully achieving a passing grade, the County is the proud holder of a Certificate of Recognition (COR).
