2010 Rural Beautification AwardsI am excited to announce that we will be offering a new format for this year’s rural beautification awards. Instead of awarding one award per division, as we have in the past. We are going to award prizes for the top three yards in the County. The top yards will then be showcased in a yard tour which will be open to all County residents. Since this is a new format all previous winners are eligible to run again.
We are changing the format of the Rural Beautification Awards in hopes that our new format will help spark more interest in the awards and bring more recognition to the considerable gardening talent that is present in our community.
Yards will be judged based on criteria such as design, uniqueness, overall maintenance and functionality. In order to be eligible contestants must meet the following criteria:
• They must be rural residents with at least 39 acres within the County of Newell.
• They must not be a member of council or an employee of the County Ag Service Board.
• They must maintain their own yards without the assistants of contractors or hired gardeners.
To nominate a yard simply fill out the ballot included in this newsletter or contact Holly White at the County of Newell at 362-2772.
