Alberta currently has a great reputation for producing high quality seed potatoes with minimal to non-existent losses from Bacterial Ring Rot (BRR). In order to maintain this status the County of Newell works in conjunction with the Potato Growers of Alberta to inspect potato fields within the County of Newell for signs of BRR.

Every year 25% of the total acreage of potatoes is inspected within the County of Newell. Fields are determined by random selection with an emphasis on fields previously infected.  The fields for inspection are determined by the Potato Growers Association of Alberta.

The County of Newell also provides potato cellar disinfection services at cost to local potato growers in the fall. For more information please contact the Agricultural Services Board.
