Property taxes help fund the programs and services provided by the County of Newell. These taxes change annually based on two key factors:
- The assessed market value of your property
- Adjustments to the County’s annual budget requirements
These factors determine the amount needed to support municipal operations and services.

Tax Payment Incentives & Penalties:
In recognition of the current economic challenges, Council passed a Tax Penalties & Incentive Bylaw (2008-21) that replaces the previous tax penalty bylaw. This new bylaw provides for:
- a discount of 2.5% applied to all current municipal taxes paid by June 15th
- a penalty of 8% applied to current year taxes outstanding as of November 15th
- a penalty of 12% applied to all taxes in arrears as of March 1st of each year
The discount is applied only to the taxes that are retained by the County of Newell. The School and Newell Foundation taxes are collected by the County, but then forwarded on to those respective parties. The 2.5% discount is applied only to the taxes listed under the Tax "Municipal” Category on your tax notice.
